PHILIPSBURG/MARIGOT--The final day of SXMusic Festival, the electronic music festival that took place at multiple locations on St. Maarten/St. Martin, was Sunday March 13, 2016.
For five long days and nights the island successfully hosted more than 2000 visitors from all over the world. Looking back, the Festival was covered by International media outlets, contributing to the organisers’ goal to make St. Maarten/St. Martin a number one tourist location in the Caribbean.
As soon as it announced the tropical location and ambitious line-up, SXMusic Festival had been nominated by lifestyle magazines, newspapers and travel agencies as one of the best festivals to visit in 2016. Observer.com, for example, headlined earlier this year: “Festival season begins with a luxurious winter escape to Saint Martin.”
Additionally, the Festival was in the top choices of Harper’s BAZAAR “Your unofficial guide to summer 2016’s music festivals” and The New York Times explicitly mentioned the event in its “Festival and Hotel news” last January.
SXMusic Festival has also not gone unnoticed on the international electronic music scene. Deephouseamsterdam.com and DJtimes.com, among others, have highlighted the Festival as an extremely promising newcomer. The latter’s website states:“As the festival scene quietly shifts from mass-produced ragers to more highbrow, niche experiences, SXMusic could not have picked a better time for its debut.”
SXMusic Festival has even been promoted by a big feature in DJ Mag China.
Worldwide news coverage of SXMusic Festival illustrates that many news items have underlined St. Maarten/St. Martin as a worthy tourist destination. Music website Friskyradio.com emphasizes how much the location has to offer for attendees: “From the affordable lodging, food, and drinks, to the variety of activities, to the friendly local atmosphere, to the epic SXM airport located right on the beach, St. Martin is the perfect place for new people to come have a complete and fulfilling festival experience.”
Travel magazine Savoteur.com describes the event’s location as “a dual territory paradise…giving festival attendees the opportunity to not only have a blast in paradise, but also to get to know some of the best spots on the island.” Observer.com takes it a step further by stating: “If you aren’t into raving, you might still appreciate the luxe getaway, especially if snow is still on the ground in the city …In fact, potential guests could consider booking a second week on the island, where they can recuperate from the madness.”
Not only the press and websites have covered SXMusic Festival and its location but also social media platforms. Via Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and YouTube the Festival has been actively promoted by the organisers, sponsors and partners. Moreover, during the Festival, visitors have expressed their impressions by sharing pictures, videos and posts with their friends and family.
Now that the Festival has successfully come to an end, visitors’ comments on Facebook were mostly positive. “Thanks for bringing such good vibes on this island”; “Infinite gratitude SXMusic!!!”; “Inthe 15 years of attending festivals in the US, I have never felt the beauty and happiness this festival brought into my life”;and, “So what are the dates for SXM 2017?” were some of the comments posted.
